TWINSBURG, OH – On Saturday, August 15, Tinker’s Creek Watershed Partners welcomed families and community members to Tinker’s Creek Watershed Family Fun Day at R.B. Chamberlin Middle School in Twinsburg. The free event brought together environmental organizations, educators, local businesses, and neighbors for a day of hands-on learning, outdoor exploration, and celebration of our local watershed.
Nearly 20 organizations from across Northeast Ohio participated: Twinsburg Public Library, Twinsburg Native Habitat Association, Christ the King Pollinator Ministry, Avonlea Gardens, Earthology Unbound, Paddle the River, Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District, Summit Soil and Water Conservation District, Tansy Recycling, Ohio Sea Grant and Stone Laboratory, Good Nature Organic Lawn Care, Great Lakes Science Center, Rock Mill Climbing, Cuyahoga River Area of Concern, Chagrin River Watershed Partners, Cleveland Metroparks, Trash Fish, Summit Metro Parks, and TCWP.
Throughout the day, families took part in interactive activities and explored the outdoors. Twinsburg Public Library hosted a children’s storytime with live music, Anna Goes Outside led a Birding Basics walk, and TCWP Education and Outreach Coordinator Kylie Kovatch guided a “How to Be a Naturalist” hike. These activities gave participants of all ages opportunities to observe wildlife, ask questions, and learn more about the natural world in their own communities.
The event was made possible through the generous support of TCWP’s business members and sponsors: ADS, Davey Resource Group, Good Nature Organic Lawn Care, OPN Seed, Accenture, Aquatic Enhancement & Survey, Inc., and Holt Orthodontics. We also thank Acme, Costco, and Sheetz for providing additional support for the event.
We are especially grateful to the volunteers who helped with setup and cleanup, staffed TCWP tables, managed refreshments, and created a welcoming experience for everyone who attended.
Thank you to the participating organizations, sponsors, volunteers, and families who made Tinker’s Creek Watershed Family Fun Day a success. We hope everyone left with a few new discoveries and a little more curiosity about the watershed just outside their door
