WARRENSVILLE HEIGHTS, OH – Tinker’s Creek Watershed Partners (TCWP) is proud to announce it has been awarded a $750 #GroMoreGood Grassroots Grant to revitalize the Warrensville Heights Rain Garden. Presented by KidsGardening and The Scotts Miracle-Gro Foundation, this funding will transform the garden into a hands-on outdoor classroom for local students.
TCWP will work alongside Warrensville Heights K-12 STEM Coordinator, Bret Wilson, to involve his students directly in the restoration process. From getting their hands dirty planting native species to learning the science behind stormwater filtration, students will gain a firsthand look at environmental stewardship in their own backyard.
The grant funds will support several visible upgrades to the site, including:
- New Native Plantings: Adding vibrant, deep-rooted plants that soak up runoff and provide a haven for pollinators like bees and butterflies.
- Site Improvements: Adding fresh mulch and a new stone pathway to make the garden more accessible for student exploration.
- Educational Signage: Installing interpretive signs so that all visitors can learn how rain gardens protect the Tinker’s Creek watershed.
Rain gardens serve as vital “green infrastructure,” capturing and filtering rainwater before it carries pollutants into our local streams. By revitalizing this space, TCWP and the Warrensville Heights community are working together to ensure a cleaner, greener future for the watershed.
